Princess' at the Beach

I think that because I grew up with boys, and that I have only boys of my own, I really cherish the time I get to spend photographing such girly girls! We talk about nail polish, jewels, hair pretties, and anything pink! I turn in to a little kid myself!

These two girls were no exception! This is the third summer in a row that I was fortunate enough to have spent a couple hours with them while they were "home" on vacation visiting family. I feel so lucky and blessed that momma called me one day and that I have been able to watch theses two little princesses grow up in front of my camera!

Their personalities are spirited, spunky, and sweet! I think we captured a little bit of each in their photo session! Thanks, Amie, for once again sharing your family time with me!!

Meet Sam...truly one of the nicest people in the world! I had such a fun time getting to know her during our time together! And talk about a natural in front of the camera!

For Sam's photo session, I LOVE that her mom came with! The two of them obviosuly have a close bond and it was wonderful to see them interact with one another! We trecked all over town a bit for some fun on-location shoots after capturing a few in the studio. The wind was crazy, we encountered a big ol' dog who enjoyed barking at us very loudly, and we got a little dirty messing around in an old wharehouse! Fun times!!

Thanks for being such a great sport Sam! You are beautiful inside and out!! Best wishes to you as you approach your senior year!

Lucky. And blessed. And I'm not even close to being Irish! But the fact that I get to photograph beautiful children and people of all ages for that matter, makes me the lucky one!

Spokes models come in all shapes and sizes, boys and girls, with no prior modeling experience required! A genuine smile and the willingness to help promote Jennifer LaChance Photography exclusively is at the top of my list when selecting spokes models! Parental consent is required to participate. An application must be filled out prior to being selected. Once participants are selected as a JL Photography spokes model, you will be photographed in April and again in June. A $100 deposit is required prior to the first shoot in April - refer 5 seniors and your deposit turns in to a $100 print credit!

{ THANKFUL! }

This year has been AMAZING!! I have so much to be thankful for that I don't even know where to exactly start! That being said, here are my top three reasons that I am so very thankful this year...

~ My wonderful husband and amazing kiddos! They are my inspiration and my motivation. For that I am thankful!

~ Our health - a couple of colds, an ear infection, and laryngitis are all we thankfully had to deal with this year!

~ Courage to take risks - I left my corporate job after 10 years to pursue my dream job and things are working out splendidly! Thank you to all of my wonderful clients!

The best part of this year has to be that I get to photograph BEAUTIFUL kiddos like Master Gerald and his princess of a sister, Annika! That sweet baby smell kicked my maternal instincts into hyper-drive!

Thank you, Nicky and Mike, for having me photograph your sweet new baby boy and your gorgeous daughter!!

Little Miss Giggle Britches!!

I don't think I have ever heard a little girl giggle so much in all my life! Either the grass was tickeling her or her Daddy was making weird faces or she just wanted to make Mommy happy, this little girl was an absolute gem to photograph!

Location number 1 was packed with people enjoying the most beautiful summer weather so we opted for location number 2 and I'd say it was darn near picture perfect! Thank you, Jenine & Mark, I had a fabulous time during our photo shoot with your little Princess!!

I love, love, loved this shoot! Not only did I get to catch up with a dear sweet old friend, but I got to know her adorable boys as well! There was so much energy and love between them...all for the sake of surprising Dad with memories for Father's Day!

These kids love to pick boogers, find bugs, pick at one another, throw a little sand here and there and at the end of our time together, they continued to laugh and run and jump and play together...as a family of all boys should! Rex, the baby of the pack, even requested that I please take one more picture of him - just him - not his older brothers. I think he is secretly smitten with me!

You have been blessed with a beautiful family Scott & Jess! True treasures! Now I just need to get Dad in front of my camera!

When babies sleep...

we watch them breathe...
we are in awe of their greatness...
they are beautiful and precious beyond words...

Plus mom's get a break and clean up the house, do the laundry, make the grocery list...I could go on, but I think you get the idea! And when babies sleep at my studio...this is what we get ~

Pure innocence captured forever and ever for you to remember. Babies grow way to quickly! That's why it's important to get them in to the studio within the first 14 days of precious life. I know, I know...there is sooo much to do when you bring a new baby home. Take the time, those first few days are but fleeting moments in your kiddos new life! I promise, you won't regret it!

It's best to call to get on my schedule at least 2 weeks before your due date - we'll figure it out once your new babe does finally arrive. But this will ensure that I make time for you to get in - I don't want to miss it!!

Big. Beautiful. Blue. Eyes!

No sleeping baby here! Nope. Wide. Awake. Even for take two of our session! But those baby blues could just melt your heart! What lucky new parents Ryder has! {swoon}

Now I tell my newborn clients, it's best to come in within the first 10-14 days after birth because they are still all bendy and sleepy and pretty much let me mold them in to the CUTEST little poses. And that's just what this mommy and daddy did - however...it does not always work that way! This kiddo was pretty much awake for every shot. Oh, he may look like he's asleep in a couple images. He blinked and I clicked! No matter how much mom fed him, no matter how softly I sang to him - wait a minute - maybe that's why he was awake - I'm not a very good singer! Anyway, I let my creativity get the best of me with some of these images and I love them! Thanks for having me photograph your precious new boy, Joanna & Chris!!!

{ Diva in Training }

Ms. Isabelle is quite the little Diva! I just love her to pieces! She was a tad stingy with her smiles but I got some nonetheless!! This little gal has such a spirited personality - and a high pitched squeal to go right with it! Her mommy dresses her right out of the magazines but for the first part of our shoot we opted for a more "natural" Diva look! She loves jewels, too! And of course, everything went straight in to her little mouth! Perhaps this Diva is teething?!

I have SO much to be thankful for this year I don't even know where to start! My family & friends - thank you for your immense support, encouragement, and for putting up with my late nights editing client photos! My clients - you are the best! Your images have brought smiles to my face and I hope they make you smile for many years to come! My photographer friends - this journey would not be possible with out all of you! Thank you for your wisdom and pushing me to go farther!

As I reflect on this past year, I am in awe of how many wonderful people I have had the priviledge to photograph! From the most sweetest 4 day old newborn babies to the coolest seniors evah! Simply Irresistable

And since Eli decided to be awake for our entire session, I seized the opportunity to squish him right up! Yum!!

Babies dictate when, where, what time, etc., no matter what the occasion. Photo sessions are by no means an exception. When I photograph babies, the session is totally centered around them - their mood, their sleep (or lack of), do they like to be swaddled or do they prefer au naturelle, and in general, just what they are up for. I aim for no stress, especially with parents, and my overall goal is to have fun while capturing these fleeting moments in time - because we all know just how quickly they grow up!

I have been so very honored to capture some beautiful memories for so many people lately that it's been a challenge to keep up on my blog about them! That plus the fact that I am so fortunate to have THE BEST clients that I have outgrown my basement "studio" and moved my set-up to a really cool {and MUCH larger} location downtown. WOW! First of all, how super lucky can a girl get to photograph so many way beautiful kids this week!! Super duper if you are me!!! :o) Secondly...I cannot believe how big baby Stone is already!!! At 7 1/2 months, he loves sweet potatoes, guitars, and his momma!!! What a little pumpkin!! I think he is used to me and my camera by now as he really didn't fuss a bit! But he did let me know when it was time to be done...until next time Mr.!!

Oh how I love doing maternity photo shoots!!! The magic of the miracle just amazes me! And for me to be so privileged to capture this time in a parent's life, well, just makes me all warm and fuzzy inside!!

To top it off, this mamma has the perfect baby belly and a daughter who is cute as a bug!! Congratulations on your new little bundle, Sarah! I can't wait to meet your newest addition!!

And if you are interested in a maternity photo shoot, remember, the best (and safest) time to schedule your session is between 34 and 36 weeks to show off that baby belly!! Our session will be comfortable, relaxed, and glamorous!!!

I had the honor to meet Mr. Lincoln this morning and let me tell you...I melted! He is perfect in every way! He even let me (and Mom & Dad) get him nakey, move him, move him yet again, prop his head up, whatever we wanted quite frankly, and he was so content and patient with us! I quite seriously think I could have photographed this precious miracle the whole entire day!

Now I am one who prides herself in maintaining a clean house, perfectly folded towels, and floors vaccuumed, however...there comes a time when the kids want to play NOW or the sun is going to set soon and today will be over and I have never, ever once heard my dishes complain that they didn't get washed right after dinner. Nope - not once. Life, however, isn't as predictable as the dishes.

Life can get so hectic with work, baseball practice, grocery shopping, laundry, you name it! It is so easy to have a day filled with things to do and we wish that there were more hours in a day - been there, done that...often. When we finally make time to get together with friends and family and see the kids we are all in wonderment of how come the kids are so grown? Where has the time gone? Sound familiar?

We all need to take time to be thankful for who we are and what we are TODAY. Not what we want to be or where we are going tomorrow. I recently read an article that inspired me to write this post...about people saying that they wanted to lose 20 pounds before having the family photo taken or that they didn't have anything new to wear so they kept putting the photos off until another day. Well let me remind you, life doesn't wait. We are who we are today. We will be lucky to have many, many more tomorrows, but we don't get today back and before you know it, the kids will be grown, you may have gained (instead of lost) 20 pounds, and your new jeans are now faded. I recently stuck myself in front of my camera so not wanting to see the results because I am like so many others - I'll wait until I fit in to the perfect jeans or when I get my hair done. Well let me tell you, I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome! It's the first time since my wedding almost 4 years ago that I have been photographed! I now have documentation of who I am TODAY. And I am so glad!

So what's my point with all of this? I want to encourage you to document life's milestone's as well as the little moments that happen each day with friends and family that are so precious. Whether you snap some shots yourself or go to a professional photographer, be sure to live life fully and capture those memories. Take more time to live today - the dishes can wait!

Baby Stone came for his 2nd photo shoot today - quite a little chunk at 4 months old! He was full of smiles until...you guessed it! Once the camera came out he was blowing bubbles and making fishy faces! I thought it was cute - mom tried everything to get him to smile but he was more interested in making me smile I guess! I was able to get some beautiful captures nonetheless!

Author Marianne Drenthe of the Professional Child Photographer Consumer Guide has so generously - and so eloquently - put the facts in such an easy to read format for clients of professional photographers and even more generously allowed this exerpt to be reprinted on my site. I hope that some of your questions may be answered by reading her article.

Custom Photography as something "special."

Custom photography is more of a luxury than your entry level cookie cutter chain experience. Custom photography truly is not for everyone, it requires a level of commitment, investment in time and money, forethought and planning on the part of the subject/client and requires a larger time commitment for the photographer as well.

Clients who enjoy taking a more active role in the creation of their families’ memories have the desire to have portrait art that is truly personalized. These more discerning clients have been known to budget and allot time for a custom photography session. Many clients opt for it to be a once a year special experience, some opt to have custom photography sessions done to record their child’s stages in life. Having said this, it is clear that custom photography is not in everyone’s budget, it is something that most families save for to splurge on from time to time to memorialize their children as they really are (not posed and primped in the cookie cutter studio setting).

There is a great deal of time involved in creating high end custom photography sessions for a client. The luxury of great service, better choices and a supberb end product. The result of all this are heirloom quality images. The time invested at the session is only a small portion of time involved in this process.

Custom photography has been likened to purchasing a fine vehicle. To get to point B from A let’s face it, even a bus ride would suffice. If you want to luxuriate in a finely appointed vehicle, customizing your own experience by listening to smooth jazz while sitting in a climate controlled setting adjusted purely for your comfort in a body hugging leather interior, perhaps that Lexus you so desire is your cup of tea. Custom photography is much the same cup of tea. It is the Lexus of the photography world. It is where the intangibles make the experience truly wonderful and the images themselves make the investment of money and time truly worthwhile.

Custom photography can be broken down into even more levels. There are on location, studio, mixed studio/on location, specialty location and destination type photographers. The beauty of custom photography is in the choices and in the luxury of thoses options. The customized service level you are sure to experience will be amazing. The knowledge that your final images are the result of someone caring about those moments so much that they take extra time ensuring that the artwork you receive is good enough to stand by with their name on it. That level of quality and commitment is all but lost in the age of "mass produced," "mass marketed," corporate "everyone is a number". Custom photography is based on being unique to you. How great an experience would be, to be able to sit back and allow a photographer to do this highly custom work for images that you will most likely cherish for a lifetime?
Keep in mind more than anything that the Lexus will never appreciate in value the way your portraits will. The portrait art you become invested in from your custom photographer will no doubt increase in value and become more priceless as the years pass.
